When Brand names bite! March 11 2015

shmuncki schmuncki shmunki shmonki shmuncky schmonky - Arghh!

Oh yes. It's a double edged sword is our company name!

I do love it - it's not quite a monkey, it's something I called my children when they were naughty - you little shmuncki!

I don't know why, it was just one of those words that pops into your head and sticks. So when it came to choosing a name it did seem to fit.

shmuncki was born.

Or schmuncki, shmunki, shmonkey etc - depending on the day.

Unfortunately, as you may have noticed the spelling isn't obvious. Not sure why I didn't see the issues this would cause!

Brand blindness?

Probably.

I just loved it so much that I couldn't see the wood for the trees, or the C's from the K's as it turned out.

Even when I have to spell it out over the phone (for the umpteenth time) - I still have to think..where is the 'c' again.

And then the reply is always, 'oh shmuncki as in shmonkey'

So it goes on and on ad infinitum.

I think I was always destined to be spelling words out over the phone, I had a very unusual maiden name (which I was very happy to be rid of thank you very much), and spent most of my adult life shouting letters into the handset.

It's like groundhog day.

If the kids want to wind me up up they just call my mobile from the landline, and shout 'spell it!'

With a small 's' - but don't get me started on that!
