My Baba October 30 2015

We were sent out the lovely Snugglebundi this week and I have to say what a great invention. You can move your baby whilst sleeping without disturbing them so when you get home after a car journey you don’t have that awful trouble of keeping your baby asleep while removing them from the car. It’s super soft and the star design is great for boys and girls. It also doubles up as a breastfeeding cover!

Keep your little ones warm this winter with the gorgeous new snowsuit from Chateau de Sable, the super cute Faux fur all-in-one by John Rocha and the very sweet Pixie jacket from Herbert and Stella. The mobile from Jäll and Tofta is a cool alternative to the traditional mobiles.

I absolutely love everything that comes from aden + anais and they have some new prints out at the moment, the new wizz kid print is super cool.

I also fell in love with this new pink romper and hat set from Shmuncki which was sent over to us. The fabric is super soft and it look so cute on my DD. For boys the flyin’ space print all-in-one from Rockin’ Baby is super cool. The new perfect plum Babymule changing bag is a great adaptable changing bag it can be used as a supportive backpack or a stylish messenger.

Sophie la Giraffe have collaborated with JoJo Maman Bebe, they’ve brought out some gorgeous baby clothes that look so adorable, I just hope my DD can still get away with baby grows at 11 months!

Shmuncki Woodland Romper Review

Woodland Romper

Reviewed by Jennifer Edwards

Shmuncki is a luxury babywear brand, which specialises in clothes that are simply stylish yet comfortable. Made in Britain from soft interlock cotton, the clothes are comfy, breathable and able to be simply thrown in the washing machine.

I was very excited to be offered a chance to review the Woodland Baby cotton Romper, and was looking forward to its delivery.  When it arrived, I was not disappointed. The romper came extremely well wrapped. First there was a sturdy brown cardboard sleeve, which opens with a pull tab. Inside was a white card box, tied with a purple ribbon and bearing a label with the word Shmuncki on it in rainbow colours. Once I opened the box, I found that the romper was wrapped in purple tissue paper sealed with another sticker. I’ve got to say, I loved the packaging. It felt special and luxurious and if I received a Shmuncki item as a gift, I’d be thrilled.

I requested a romper in a size 6-12 months, and it fits my 8 month old daughter really well, with a little space for growing. It has short sleeves but long legs so it’s perfect in the British weather. I liked that the sleeves were slightly longer than standard which meant that my daughters vest wasn’t visible. The romper has poppers between the legs, and two poppers on the shoulder to make it easy to put on your child. There was plenty of room for her head, and the fabric stretches well. It’s also worth mentioning that we use cloth nappies which are slightly bulkier that disposables and we had no problems poppering the romper over our daughter’s nappy.

The Woodland Romper is cream coloured with a pattern of hedgehogs, mice and owls, with some small leaves, all in a soft pink. The leg cuffs and neck are both cream. While wearing it, my daughter seemed comfortable, and wasn’t left with any marks as all off the edgings are very soft and gently elasticated. The romper washed very well, without fading or becoming misshapen, and it resists ceases rather well.

Overall I was very pleased with the Shmuncki Woodland Baby cotton Romper, which retails for £20 and can be purchased from The quality and packaging of the item are superb, and although I think it is a little on the more expensive side, it is marketed as a luxury clothing item, and it definitely fits that criteria. However I personally think it would make a wonderful gift item if you were looking for something simple, classic, but a little bit special.

Rating: 4.5/5

Twit-Twoo! Stay On Trend With The Owl Theme

Sophie Douglas | Web Editor |

Owl-themed products remain as popular as ever – every shop and website seems to have at least one wise-owl product. We’ve scoured the shelves and found our favourite owl products, from toys to nursery decorations and more.

Mummy vs Work - Best Baby Gifts July 06 2015

Its been a while since Kayleigh and Ethan were little and the baby market has boomed since then with so many baby products out there, but when it comes to buying someone who has just had a baby where do you start?

I’ve got a friend who is just about to have her 2nd baby however she has a little bit of an age gap and the market is a whole new minefield to get through with so much choice and gadgets out there, where do you start?

Recently I’ve been thinking about what I can get her for a gift so went in search of what was the most popular and helpful products on the market and wow there are some great items out there now!

Baby Gift

As i said there is some amazing products out there!

So this is what we have found:

SnoozeShade original £19.99 – This is the perfect item for this weather. Made from a special soft breathable fabric and gives maximum sun protection from the sun’s harmful UV rays. It blocks 99% of UVA and UVB (UPF50+) Now I know my friend is looking to do buggy fitness after having her little girl so this will be perfect for that. Snoozeshade is an award-winning brand and it is clear to see why. This is a great product and one of the must have when you have a little one.

Milestone cards £20.00– These cards from My 1st Years are one of the things I wish I had when Kayleigh and Ethan were little. I have seen lots of these popping up on social media and they are adorable. Each card has a little milestone on it such as “Today I ate solid for the first time” or “Today I am 1 week old”. You get a beautiful selection of cards and they really will bring a smile to your face when you look back at the pictures.

Baby Gift

Chillipeeps 3in1 Spout and Teat £6.50 each – Over on the Chillipeeps site you can get their teats and spouts which are perfect for when you are on the go as they can be attached to ready-made formula but also onto fits Volvic and Evian 500ml / 50cl bottles. This is a great way to ensure that even if you are not able to make your little ones bottles up fresh you can ensure they get their bottles when you need them. They are also dishwasher safe too and come in a handy little pods to keep them clean on the go.

easidream® Ewan the Dream Sheep £29.99 – I first saw Ewan the Dream Sheep when they first appeared at the Baby show in London and even back then there was a big buzz about the product that still is here today. Ewan is highly rated amongst parents and awards and it is clear to see why. Ewan replicates the soothing sounds of a pregnant mum’s womb and heartbeat. The sounds have been combined with household, musical and natural sounds at low bass frequencies of 125hz to produce ‘pink noise.’ This is the type of noise that babies predominantly hear when in the womb, which is why it is so effective. This is a perfect gift for any new parents to help set them off on their journey as parents.

Gumigem bracelet £8.95 & Necklace £12.95 – Everyone one with a little one knows how much they love things that your are wearing that may dangle or are shiny so necklaces and ear rings for example are a “must grab” in their eyes! So these items from Gumigem are perfect. Gumigem are trying to provide mums with stylish jewellery which is safe for little ones too. Made from silicone (the same as dummies and children’s cutlery) which makes it flexible but also safe. It is easy to clean and the necklaces come with a breakaway clasp which makes it safe too.

Baby Gift

Pixie and Jack Cellular Blanket £20 however currently £10.95 in the sale – Blankets are always needed for layering when you have a little one, especially in the UK when you have no idea what the weather is doing from one month to another. These cotton cellular blankets from Pixie and Jack are perfect for this and currently in the sale for just £10.95! They are super soft and trimmed with satin which makes it lovely to the touch. These are a must have for any parent with a little one.

Blush Baby Skibz Doublez Poppers £10.00 and Pale Pink Nelly Teetherz £5.00 – Bandana bibs are a must have of any teething baby however Skibz have pushed out to new limits with their great doublex poppers and teetherz that go that one step further. Designed to be double-sided these bibs have little poppers at the bottom whice can either have one of their really cute teethers attached or on of their soothers. Such a great idea but what I love about Skibz is there are always brining out funky designs which means you can get away from boring bland designs and add a little bit of fun to your little ones outfits.

Shmuncki Baby Girl Newborn Gift set £37.00 – I’m not sure where to start with this gift but say how beautiful it is. I opened this gift set and it literally made me go all warm inside! It is a beautiful woodland themed blanket, hat and bib set made out of 100% soft jersey cotton. Shmuncki was the idea of mum of two who wanted to bring classic designs made beautifully with the practical element such as poppers to give you the ease when putting them on. It really is the most beautiful set I have seen and I would have loved to have received one with either of my two.

Nuby Newborn ranges – Nuby is one of our favourite baby ranges and has been since mine were little so I know they have a great range of items that would make the perfect little gifts for your family and friends no matter what your budget. As well as their feeding ranges that they do Nuby also offer a great selection of teethers and toys. My particular favourite was the Buddy Buggy Hippo and at just £5.99 it is a great price. So whether it is bottles you are looking for or maybe something different like a selection of teethers for when they are a little older, Nuby is the place to look. Also make sure you are following them on social media as they have some great offers which they share on there as well as some amazing competitions.

Baby Gift

So there you have a selection of the best products on the market and a starting place if you are a new parent to be as the lists of “must haves” is huge!

What is your “must have” baby product?

Shmuncki Liberty Art Fabric Babygrow & Jacket Review

This time last week I was packing for BritMums Live and heading to London. P3 was kindly sent theLiberty Art Fabric Baby Girl Jacket and the Liberty Art Fabric Baby girl babygrow romper to wear whilst at BritMums Live. This made trying to find an outfit for her so much easier. She ended up being sent three lovely outfits so I had to find time to change her. The Shmuncki outfits were actually worn at night and as I hadn’t taken my “big camera” the photos I got were pretty awful. So when we got home I did a little photoshoot to really showcase the beautifulness of the outfits.

The Shmuncki order was packaged so beautifully. I always love opening things wrapped in tissue paper! The garments were also individually inside little bags that were so delicate and will be reused for something else.

We were sent the size 6-12months and for P3 who is just about to turn 9 months old, the Babygrow Romper was slightly for her feet but not overly drowning at the arms.

The Liberty Art Fabric Babygrow and Jacket are both made from 100% soft Jersey cotton. The outfits were so soft and screamed high quality to me.

I always get slightly nervous when anybody wears white, especially babies, as I didn’t want to ruin the fabric by staining it. However, it washed really well and is still super soft and bright white.

I love the delicate pattern around the edges. It’s a subtle addition to a plain Babygrow and jacket. I also love the little hood on the jacket and the way it has the trim the whole way round.

I was very worried that by wearing a full Babygrow that P3 would be too hot in this beautiful heat but the fabric is quite thin which means it’s a really lovely item of clothing to wear outside in the sun to protect her skin from the sun rays.

The Liberty Art Fabric Baby Girl Jacket costs £24.50 and the Liberty Art Fabric Baby girl babygrow romper costs £22.50. So these items are definitely classed as luxury to me as we probably wouldn’t normally pay that price but I am so pleased with the items and they’d make a wonderful gift for a new mum.

10 Tips For Keeping Kids Cool in a Heatwave

So as the country looks forward to a heatwave

I have to admit it fills me with dread

My little family do not cope well with heat

At all

And so I am busy making preparations

The paddling pool is out

Fans out of the loft

Duvets swapped for sheets

Freezer stocked with ice cream and pops

Funky hats at the ready

And lots of ideas for watery, icy even, messy play

If, like me, the heat makes you shiver

You might enjoy my ten tips for keeping kids cool in a heatwave

1: Stock your fridge and freezer
When the weather hots up it is harder to keep hydrated. Children and babies will need to drink water. I find my children often need encouraging to drink more when it is hot so we make fruity ice lollies, smoothie ice pops and stock up on frozen yoghurt and ice cream. I also like to offer sugar free squash as well as water on hottest days to make sure they are getting the hydration that they need.

2: Keep the house as cool as can be
It is hard to keep every room cool so we focus on our lounge. The windows are opened wide but the curtains remain shut all day. It means the room is airy but not hot. We have some quiet TV time and an indoor picnic lunch on the hottest days. We try to stay out of the sun between 11 and 3 so having a cool indoor space makes this more possible.

3: Make a safe, cool sleeping area
When the temperatures soar safe sleep must be a priority. You can control bedroom temperatures by opening windows but keeping curtains and blinds closed during daylight hours. You can put a fan into the room to circulate area. Put the fan near the windows to catch any breeze coming in. For a couple of hours before sleep time place large bottles off ice in the room and ice in front of the fan, these measures can help to cool the air. All my children sleep in just their nappies or pants in high temperatures. The older two find this good fun. ‘No pyjamas!’ they exclaim. Bea currently sleeps with us and when the temperature is very high in our room I do not use any bedding at all. If your baby is in their cot or bed and likes to be covered you could put a thin cotton sheet over their legs, but make sure it is tucked in tight. For more safe sleep information linked to temperatures please see this fact sheet from The Lullaby Trust.

4: Use sunscreen
When the summer is at it’s hottest we are trying to avoid dehyrdration, heatstroke / heat exhaustion and sunburn. When you are getting the children dressed in the morning, before they put on their clothes cover their body in suitable sun tan lotion to protect their skin. You can and should add to this initial coverage throughout the day, especially if children have been in or played with water. We use organic lotion from Green People who have a new sensitive, scent free, SPF 30 available this summer.

5: Wear cotton clothing and hats
If you choose to dress your children in more than their nappy or pants, choose light cotton clothing to keep them cool. Also encourage your children to wear a hat. Believe me I know that this is easier said than done. I have had some success with Bea with a sun hat from Shmuncki. These hats look great, they protect little heads from the sun and because of the design, the shape, Bea seems to forget that she has it on. And therefore does not spend all day pulling it off!

6: Enjoy water and sensory play

Hot days are great days for paddling pools in the garden. They are also great for sand and water play. Lots of fun can be had and children can keep cool with the water at the same time. You can add things to the water to make it even more exciting. There are lots of ideas to inspire you here.

7: Play in the shade

Set up some play activities in the shadiest areas of your garden. Put out a rug with some teddy bears and a tea set. Put out a tuff spot full of wooden blocks. Make an outdoor reading nook in the shade of a tree. Make the shadier places more appealing to little ones than the sun.

8: Invest in a UV safe pop up tent
These are great for popping up in the garden or the park or at the beach to make shade where there is none. We have the Babymoov Anti UV Tent. It is super quick and easy to put up and provides a safe space to sit and play with baby. The tent has mesh sections which allow for good ventilation. We really like the Babymoov tent and will be using it lots this summer I am sure.Babymoov also have the Babyni Playpen which offers UV protection and shade.

9: Eat little and often
Many adults eat much less when it is hot, our children are likely to do the same. So be prepared for a change in appetite and encourage children to eat little and often, to graze. Offer fruits and vegetables with high juice content such as cucumber, tomatoes, oranges and melon. Offer cheese and crackers, mini sandwiches along with the ices and smoothies I mentioned earlier on. Try not to worry if children are off their food, offer them lots to drink instead.

10: Have a cooler quiet bathtime
Have a cooler bath, cooler temperature and perhaps slower paced. Allow children to relax and cool down in the water before starting getting ready for bed. Maybe add some polar animals for small world play. Thinking cold thoughts can make us feel cooler, apparently. On the hottest of days it has to be worth a try.

A sneaky but important 11: Look after you!
Make sure that you are drinking more and resting more. The family will cope better with anything and everything if you are well fed, well hydrated and not totally drained by the heat of the day. Remember yourself when applying sunscreen and make sure your own bedroom is cool enough to be comfortable at the end of the day.

So, these are my top tips for keeping kids cool, and therefore keeping my cool, as we head into the heatwave.

I would love to hear yours.

Blogpost : Run out of Womb June 24 2015

run out of womb
12 JUNE 2015

Babies definitely love their clothes. As in, they love vomming and weeing and pooing all over them. (Note for mums-to-be: make sure your washing machine is ship-shape and buy Napisan stain remover in bulk; you'll soon see why...). Rare a day goes by without our bathroom sink becoming a tiny washing pond, with little vests and babygrows soaking out their bright yellow stains.. Hope you're not reading this over lunch :)

Anyway, the upshot is that babies need a lot of clothes. Get as many hand-me-downs as possible: three nieces and a nephew luckily guaranteed that for my tiny man, and we are so grateful. As I've said in the ultimate newborn shopping list, check out Facebook's Buy & Sell Your Baby Stuff group, NCT nearly-new sales, eBay and Gumtree and ask family and friends if they have stuff they can't wait to declutter heirlooms to pass on too.

But sometimes, for that family wedding or photoshoot or lunch or just because you want your tot to look even more like the cutest baby in the land than they usually do, you'll want to splash out. Where to go? Well, you can visit sites like Alex & Alexa and kit your babba out in Baby Dior (ugh.. and it even has a £750 Fendi changing bag. The site does, though, have really good sales and non-footballers' wives' kids gear too).

Baby Gap always has uber cute items too - I love its current bird range:

But for something different my favourite splurges are from the quirky British brands out there. Like baby clothing co Shmuncki* - the founder of London told me she loved old-fashioned baby clothes, and her designs marry them with ease (poppers, speedy access to nappies, really soft comfy fabrics). I love this cute harbour-print romper.

Going for white is always asking for trouble - but it does have a matching bib to save the outfit (and there's a very soft hat too) - it's a lovely summer holiday outfit. There are really cute Liberty print rompers for girls.

Any other favourite special occasion baby clothes?

* Item sent to Run out of Womb for review. Rest assured, though, that I'm seriously gobby and would never rave about something that's rubbish.

  1. My first impressions from the lovely wrapped romper were high – like a little present.

I was not disappointed with this. It looks absolutely lovely. The pattern is very pretty with soft pink colour detail.

I am very happy that the incredibly soft feel of this romper continues wash after wash.

The design is perfect for the weather right now. My baby is still in baby grows the majority of the time, therefore its handy she can have bear feet.

It has been made easy to put on with the handy poppers, and they are all central (unlike some baby grows that are on the side).

This would make a lovely gift, as I would not normally spend this much on a simple baby grow for my chiildren. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this for friends and family as a gift.

  2. My Shumnki Woodland Romper Suit arrived beautifully wrapped in tissue paper as if it were a present and my expectations were instantly set very high. The print on the suit is a very cute and pretty light pink design consisting of little hedgehogs, mice and owls. Before using it I decided to wash it on a 60 degree 2 hour wash, which i do quite regularly with my daughters clothes. The suit washed beautifully, there was no shrinkage, fading to the print or roughening or bobbling to the material. Nor was there any after subsequent washes.
I found the style of the suit, that is short sleeves with long legs but no feet not only unusual but also really useful and versatile especially as the season has been changing and it’s been too warm for a full romper suit but not warm enough for shorts. The fact that it’s made of 100% cotton has given me the confidence to know it’s not going to irritate my daughters delicate skin as well as allowing her skin to breathe. I was given the 6-12 month size for my 6 month old and I found the size perfect, a little loose which I prefer and with room to grow, even with her rather rubenesque thighs and arms. The neck with the poppers undone create a large enough hole to fit easily over my daughters head without any struggle or discomfort and all the poppers are done up and undone with ease. I think this suit is not only great looking and practical but would make a super gift especially given the beautiful way it arrives to your door. It is more expensive than some other brands but given its quality and the amount of use you will be able to get from it I think it makes it a very wise and competitive investment. It has definitely become a wardrobe staple and a firm favourite.

  3. I was sent the Woodland Romper from Shmunki to try on my 6 month old. From the moment I opened the package I knew this would be a quality piece of clothing, the romper was beautifully wrapped in purple tissue paper. The romper itself is beautifully soft and well made. The woodland animals print is not garish at all and is very pleasant in a pale pink. The size received was 6-12 months, I did initially think it was going to be huge on my little girl, but it fits her perfectly with a bit of room to grow. I do not think it’ll last until she’s 12 months though as she is rather tall already. With poppers just on the legs and around the neck it really does make nappy changing easier. The overall body fit is good, the arm and ankle cuffs are not tight. My daughter is very comfortable in this. It has been washed several times and it washes well and remains lovely and soft. With the changing weather recently I am satisfied that she’s comfortable in all temperatures wearing the romper. She’s also crawling and I haven’t seen and excessive wear on the knees or bobbling. These are on the more expensive side of baby clothing, however I wouldn’t hesitate buying a gift set for a friend should they have a baby, also maybe another for my little one.

    Shmuncki Review

We were sent the most beautiful jacket to review from Shmuncki. This Liberty Art Fabric Betsey Ann Jacket is a welcome edition to Charlotte’s Spring & Summer wardrobe as it is light weight and not too thick for the upcoming sunny weather. I am personally a huge fan of liberty fabric so I am overjoyed that Charlotte gets to see and wear this gorgeous fabric for herself.

I have to admit to be rather nervous when it came to putting her something white, I know I avoid white colours myself due to sticky handprints being rather attracted to this colour. We can happily say it has been in and out the wash several times since Charlotte started to wear it and it still looks as good as it did new. Only yesterday was it covered in strawberries after lunch and today it is washed and still brilliantly white.

The jacket is 100% cotton with the trim being in tana lawn which to me is perfect for babies delicate skin. We have it in size 12-18months and I believe it to be true to size for us, Charlotte has just turned 14 months and I can see it lasting her for many months to come.

It could make a beautiful new baby gift as well as being a statement piece to add to your babies wardrobe. If like me you love the fabric but are not after a jacket then you have the option of a baby grow or sleeved vest. My only grumble is that it would be nice if gift wrapping was included or cheaper but then my eco friendly side applauds this. It did make us smile to sit and unwrap the jacket with Charlotte.

My temptation this week… did I find out the sex of our baby?

Hope you are all well and enjoying the sunshine?

This week it is my birthday week! Well my actual birthday is on Friday but I had a lovely little surprise celebration on Saturday night when Alex arranged for a private chef to come and cook at our house for 8 of us. Lucy Furlonge is none other than Lord Sainsbury’s chef, and when she arrived at my house on Saturday night and took over our kitchen with her waitress Anyas in toe, I was more than excited to sit back, relax and enjoy the culinary delights.

Lucy’s menu and creations were incredible and it was amazing to be entertained at home. Thank you Alex for such a great surprise and thank you to my friends who were able to join me to celebrate the occasion. #luxurylifestyleliving for sure!

Over the last week, I’ve been trying out some lovely new maternity clothes. I’ve discovered a lovely brand called ‘Heavenly Bump’, who stock some really cosy maternity wear, and cute dresses for Summer. If you follow me on Twitter you may have noticed me in a couple of their cute dresses but I particularly like these outfits too…

    Paisley print maxi £40

Green flower print wrap dress £36

    Palm tree playsuit £32

If you are expecting a baby I recommend checking them out – who said being pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t be stylish?!

Moving on to more clothes but this time children’s ones… how cute are these designs that come gorgeously gift wrapped…

Shmuncki’s are a London-based design house specialising in classic and stylish babywear and accessories. Their collection takes inspiration from heritage designs, and all of their clothes are made in Britain ( I’m starting to wish we knew what we were having now so I could buy lots of bits… Although saying that there isn’t really long to wait at all.

I was actually a little naughty last week because I tried to find out the sex of our baby without Alex knowing when I attended St Helier hospital in Surrey. I was given a guided tour of their birthing facilities and helped present an award to their maternity team with UNICEF representative Anne Strong. The award was given to both St Helier and Epsom hospital, recognising their high standards in encouraging and supporting new mums to bond with their babies and make the best choice in how to feed their newborn. It’s important that all parents get the support and help that they need to feed and bond with their new baby, and I think it’s great that both of hospitals that are local to me are doing that so well.

So…whilst I was there I asked for a cheeky scan but unfortunately they were unable to fit me in… Oh well the surprise is meant to be. I’ve waited this long, so what is another couple of weeks?

Aside of my pregnancy news, my new show Cowboy Builders and Bodge jobs starts on Channel 5 next Monday and A Place in the Sun is back on Channel 4 too. Hopefully you get to see them.

    Have a great weekend guys,

    Laura xx
